Summary
This video provides a comprehensive overview of strategies for dental practices aiming to increase patient acquisition, drawing on the presenter’s 10 years of marketing experience, including six years focused specifically on dentistry.
Key Insights and Core Concepts
- Foundational Organic Marketing:
- Essential starting points include creating and optimizing a Google Business Profile, maintaining a professional website, and cultivating patient reviews.
- These organic methods help build initial visibility and trust with prospective patients by offering informative content and showcasing the practice’s value.
- However, these organic channels have a natural ceiling—a limit on growth and reach that platforms like Google, Instagram, and Facebook intentionally enforce.
- Limitations of Organic Reach:
- Organic marketing cannot extend visibility beyond a certain geographic radius effectively, regardless of the number of reviews or quality of content.
- Platforms have designed their ecosystems such that full leverage now requires direct payment to the platforms (advertising), effectively capping free growth.
- Advertising Dynamics:
- Advertising on platforms like Google is now an auction-based system, where dental offices compete by bidding for patient attention.
- In 2026, the number of dental offices relying on paid advertisements is expected to increase by 25%, intensifying competition and reducing profit margins.
- Additional challenges include:
- Reduced tracking capabilities due to enhanced privacy controls (e.g., changes by Meta) limit optimization of ad campaigns.
- Growing consumer skepticism toward traditional advertising tactics diminishes effectiveness.
- Consequently, while advertising remains a necessary tool to surpass organic limits, it is becoming increasingly costly and less effective.
- The Power of Attraction and Alignment:
- The presenter distinguishes between awareness (visibility through advertising and online presence) and alignment (deep resonance with patient values and beliefs).
- Attraction occurs at the intersection of being aware of a service and believing it is a good fit or better option—this alignment drives stronger patient commitment.
- Most current marketing efforts focus on awareness, but neglect the crucial element of alignment.
- Word of Mouth and Becoming Remarkable:
- The recommended long-term strategy is to focus on becoming remarkable to patients, thereby leveraging word of mouth and referrals, which is a more sustainable and powerful growth mechanism.
- Strong alignment leads to:
- Patients willing to pay higher prices.
- Patients willing to travel longer distances (beyond the typical 5-10 mile radius constrained by awareness-driven marketing).
- This approach requires more emotional labor, time, and effort but yields greater patient loyalty and growth potential.

Conclusions
- Starting with organic marketing is necessary but insufficient for scalable growth in dental patient acquisition.
- Paid advertising is increasingly required but faces growing challenges such as rising costs, privacy constraints, and consumer distrust.
- The future of sustainable patient growth lies in building strong alignment through remarkable patient experiences, leveraging word of mouth over mere visibility.
- Practices that succeed by fostering alignment become the only viable option for patients, breaking free from geographic and pricing constraints.
- This approach requires deliberate focus, emotional investment, and time but offers superior rewards compared to the diminishing returns of advertising.

Hey, welcome to this video. And in this video, what I’m going to do is I’m going to give you a quick overview of what are the actions, what do you have to do to get more dental patients. And to give you a quick background about me, I’ve been doing marketing for about 10 years now. Six of those within dentistry. And I’ve worked with a handful of clients, particularly in Southern California. If you want to see who I’ve worked with, you can check out my website, check out my bio, and I’ll you’ll see some of the
00:00:24
clients that I’ve worked with there. All right. So, what I’ll do is I’ll share with you all of the experiences I’ve had during those 10 years, the conclusions I’ve come to, and I won’t get too into the weeds in this video of why we do what we do and all the reasons why I come to this conclusion. I’ve done that in other videos. This video is just going to be more big picture. All right. So, with that said, the conclusion that I’ve come to based on all the mistakes
00:00:49
I’ve made, all the experience I’ve gotten is that there are things that you should be doing when it comes to like organic stuff, things like Google business profile, things like having a website and all this good stuff. But at the end of the day, those platforms and those methods of getting new patients are they hit a ceiling. There’s a cap on them. And it’s intentionally designed by platforms, platforms like Google, platforms like social media, like Instagram and Facebook where you can no
00:01:18
longer gain gain a high a stronger advantage. You can’t get more visibility. You no matter the number of reviews you have, if you’re two cities over from someone, you’re not going to really be recommended to them. There’s a cap to what you can do with all the organic stuff. So, if you’re doing those things well, and I I believe that you should start with the organic stuff. Get your Google business profile. Start getting reviews there. Get a website. Make it look nice and informational for
00:01:45
the people who seek to visit you. Let let them build trust by showing photos and stuff. All this good stuff you should definitely do. Now, there’s going to you’re going to hit a ceiling. There’s going to come to a point where it doesn’t get the number of patients that you want in order to grow. And to do that, there are many ways of doing it. But if you want to leverage a platform, if you want to get it sooner, the only option we’re left with now is to advertise. It’s not going to be
00:02:14
things like SEO, it’s going to be to pay the platform itself. That’s how the platforms have intentionally designed it. In the past, you could hire an SEO agency, you could pay a third party, and that third party would help you leverage Google. But now, Google has created an ecosystem where if you want to leverage Google, now you pay Google directly. All right? So that is the essence of strategy when it comes to the digital world. That said, I don’t think that is the best strategy. We in our core are an
00:02:44
advertising agency. But as I see the dynamics of advertising and I see the trends, we see that advertising is becoming less and less effective. And there are many reasons why. One of the reasons is that our ability to track information is really being throttled. The importance of patient privacy and user privacy I think was always understated before but now as companies like Meta begin to respect people’s privacy our ability to track data is for good reason throttled and what that does is that it makes the our ability to
00:03:20
optimize advertisements and campaigns more difficult. So the ability for you to find profits when it comes to advertising um takes a longer time and it also becomes more costly. There’s also more crowding. More dental offices now are relying on advertising in 2026. This year there’s going to be an well it’s expected that the number of offices who are advertising is expected to increase by 25%. So, there’s an incredible amount of crowding. And what happens in a crowded auction because that’s how
00:03:53
advertisements works. It’s an auction-based system. Is that the profit margins start to diminish because if you sought to make $1,000 from advertising, someone might be willing to pay $900 for that. You might be willing to pay $950 for that. And another person might be willing to pay $990 for that. So, the person who wins the auction is the person who is willing to lose the most money. And so as that ratchets upwards, the profit margins disappear. There’s growing distrust among consumers. Um
00:04:21
people don’t trust Black Friday sales anymore. We don’t trust that the 20% off is really a 20% off. We are just very skeptical about authority in general. And so with all these trends, advertising starts to become a more ineffective medium where like it’s but unfortunately it’s the only medium that we’re left with if we choose to stay in this digital world of getting visibility. Now the method that I recommend and that I am advocating for is that we seek to attract patients a different way which
00:04:53
is to become remarkable to leverage the force of word of mouth. And that is a whole different ballgame than when we’re talking about just visibility. If we look at attraction, how people get attracted to become a spouse, to become a business partner, to become a referring doctor, to become whatever. If we can look at the forces of attraction, we can see that attraction happens when we have alignment and awareness. alignment being do I believe that thing is good for me or or is that thing what I believe is a
00:05:29
form of better because if I look at that and it seems to be very good then I am aligned with it and if I’m aware of it then I can create or there’s some level of attraction for it so this guy has all the properties that I want in a business partner I am aware of those properties then if I’m looking for a business partner then I can be attracted to him to work together as a business partner. And this dynamic happens everywhere and especially with um patient attraction. The world of marketing and advertising
00:06:01
that we thought was uh marketing where we’re looking at advertising exists in the realm of awareness. all this stuff, social media, um Google business profile, uh websites and so on exist to raise awareness and very marginally does it impact the realm of alignment. And so the work I’m advocating for is to create deeper alignment with a group of people we seek to serve such that they become more attracted. And now when we have stronger alignment, what we have is more value. We become more meaningful to the
00:06:34
people we seek to serve. And so now we can expand our like our reach like we don’t have to leverage all these platforms in order to get people. We can start to leverage the word of mouth that is ever getting stronger and amplified in today’s economy where where we’re more connected than ever than it’s cheaper than ever to communicate. It’s easier than ever. And so I think the question we shouldn’t be asking anymore or the question we should be asking today isn’t where do we rank on Google
00:07:05
or how is our advertising doing. The question we should be asking is are people telling others about us such that they’re showing up to our office. And if we’re not asking ourselves that question and if we’re not creating the conditions to be get more of those referrals then I think we’re relying in a realm that is growing worse. All right. So we need to start making the shift towards word of mouth, towards becoming remarkable, towards creating more alignment with the people we seek to serve. And a benefit
00:07:35
of that is now they’re willing to pay more because you have stronger alignment with what they believe is good dentistry. They’re willing to travel further. So in this realm where we’re just focused on visibility, we have to really limit ourselves to a small radius around your office like 5 to 10 miles. Because when it’s just awareness and there’s not strong alignment, people are going to care about price. People are going to care about convenience. And so we have this tiny radius around your
00:08:02
office. But when you create strong alignment in a way that no other provider does, then you become the only option. And people if they want to work with you and they will, they will um willingly take more sacrifices, take on more costs, take on more time for travel. And so if you become remarkable such that you’re worth and it makes sense to have a one-hour drive to get to your office, just think of all the different people that you can or or the impact that you can have with that level of remarkability.
00:08:36
So all the benefits that exist when you start focusing on alignment as a method of getting new patients rather than focusing on the awareness aspect of attraction um is huge. And so what I’m advocating for is that we make the shift. And if you’re interested, I have a free course in my description below. So to give you a quick recap of everything that we’ve talked about, if you’re looking to get more patients, if you’re looking to grow your dental office with new patient acquisition, there are the basics that
00:09:06
you’re going to have to take care of, which are things like um websites, things like social media, things like building trust, um Google business profile. If you want to expand beyond that because that’s capped by platforms intentionally, then you’re going to have to spend money on advertising. Alternatively, you can focus on becoming remarkable, which is arguably more difficult to do. It’s it takes more time. It’s more emotional labor, but the rewards are much more significant. And
00:09:35
this is the activity that leaders take. It’s the activity that people who re reject the status quo and bring to the market something better take. All right, so I hope you make that shift. If not, you’re going to have to rely on advertising. At the same time, advertising is getting worse. So, hope you check out my course. I think you’ll find it valuable. And I’ll see you guys in the next one. Thanks.
