Design Consistent Meaning

When you lean into an extreme, early adopters instantly notice it and interpret it as “better” because it aligns with their beliefs. That alignment is what creates engagement. Extremes also act as a guide for your touch points, helping you stay consistent, build trust, and avoid mixed signals that break trust.

  1. Touch points exist to create feelings.

Every interaction produces a meaning, and that meaning creates an emotional response. You want feelings of openness, trust, and engagement, not fear, doubt, or withdrawal.

  2. Meaning always gets filtered.

Each touch point passes through culture, status, and past experience. These filters decide whether your event feels safe, risky, familiar, or threatening.

  3. Different filters create different outcomes.

The same recommendation can feel reassuring to someone with positive past experiences and threatening to someone with negative ones.

  4. Touch points must align with the filters.

When your extreme supports their cultural norms, raises their status, or fits their history, the meaning becomes positive. When it clashes, trust drops.

  5. The goal is a predictable emotional journey.

Consistent, extreme-aligned touch points create consistent meanings and consistent feelings, which make treatment acceptance and retention far more reliable.
