30. Where Is The Tension?

Word of mouth only happens when you are truly remarkable.
Remarkable means worthy of being remarked upon. It is not about features, function, or specs. It is a feeling someone has that compels them to talk.
Commodities focus on function.
Improving function, adding features, or slightly outperforming competitors will never make you remarkable. It keeps you in the undifferentiated, forgettable zone.
Remarkability is emotional, not functional.
People talk when something makes them feel pride, belonging, delight, surprise, or identity-level resonance. Function alone can never generate that.
Example: Smartwatch vs. Rolex.
A smartwatch outperforms a luxury watch in every functional dimension.
Yet luxury watch buyers pay far more because the watch delivers feelings like status, pride, heritage, identity, and belonging.
Luxury brands know they are in the feelings business, not the function business.
Chasing more function leads to diminishing returns.
Once your baseline competence is met, improving function further gives almost no emotional gain. That is why remarkable brands stop optimizing function and start optimizing feelings.
Your job is to design emotional outcomes.
Ask:
How can we help patients feel more pride?
How can we help them feel more control?
How can we help them feel safer?
How can we help them feel belonging, hope, or relief?
These emotional shifts create remarkability, loyalty, and referrals.
The path to being chosen is emotional, not functional.
Once function is “good enough,” winning requires creating the feelings that move people, make your practice talk-worthy, and turn patients into advocates.
Knowledge without execution is just wasted time. Our Implementation Kit is designed to give you the clarity you need to plan your work, and work your plan.
